A week in the heat
In the midst of a historic heatwave on continental Europe, I am here, bemoaning the lack of standing fans, ceiling fans, AC and housing infrastructure that expels, not keeps, heat.
I started my trip in Paris, which is always a fun stop for family and friends, then headed to Geneva for UN AI for Good. I was invited to speak at a workshop on AI Testing and Evaluations, and I gave a talk named "Beyond Responsible AI", where I argued that the people who should be testing AI the most (people that AI impacts) don't get to; and proposed some recommendations on how we can do that.
The same week, also in Geneva, I also spoke on a WomenInGenAI panel at the WSIS Forum, "Responsible GenAI in Public Services: From Policy Principles to Deployable Workflows." With my co-panelists, we discussed challenges and practices with deploying AI in government, healthcare, education and more.
Geneva was abuzz the whole week, with thousands of people from many different countries. I attended the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, witnessing the leaders of many countries express interest and concern about AI.
From Geneva, I'm now beginning the long way home to Singapore, via London, Sharjah, and Kuala Lumpur. I've lived in or near all these cities as well (Sharjah is near Dubai) and I have lots of friends and people to catch up with in each location. When I get home to Singapore, it will be my first time back there in three years.
It's wonderful to be able to travel again. From feeling extremely disconnected from the world, when I was waiting for my immigration process to clear, to now resuming the life that I had, and more.
