Do you think it might also be useful to ask what kind of range the respondents' yearly income actually is, in order to provide more context to the questions about what percentage of it is spent on travel/tech?

Now that I have a full-time job, I'm still buying the same kind of gear, but obviously the percentage has dropped considerably :)

Good point on the income bit - that was what we wanted to do originally, but we thought it might be a bit complicated since we were anticipating responses from across the world where income range doesn't quite correspond, eg. making more than 50,000 USD a year as an absolute figure means different things depending on which part of the world you come from. Guess this was the best we could do..!
