Oh Dear

Look what I’ve done.

***

On behalf of the sapphic (the other word just seems too crude) community, can I just say, after Be With Me exposed the nation to one of the first girl couples on screen:

  1. We don’t all take neoprints.
  2. We don’t all take neoprints like that (you know, that mouth agape silly kawaii face)
  3. We don’t all text like that. (e.g. “Happy 2 tok 2 u”)
  4. We don’t all leave our girlfriends for some guy.
  5. We don’t all jump off a building when our girlfriends leave for some guy (or girl) – and certainly not landing on a security guard either.

So, should I even watch it?

I guess I was too bz gawking at Sam the whole time, but I did find her char leaving for another guy without so much as an explaination to be a bit odd.
  • Granted. Though the fact that lesbian couples get no airtime at all on local screens, many of us reject this portrayal because it doesn’t reflect the reality on the ground and other viewers may in turn end up holding such notions about us..

You don’t all take Neoprints, SMS like that, etc…

I find that particular story makes a little bit better viewing if you see it as “young love” rather than “lesbian love”.

the last part when she fell on “ah pui” really did it for me…

    bish bish
  • yes it was. but was just very irked by that, and by the people behind me who were making fun of theresa.

    Z : I don’t what?
  • jo
haha, i’m sure most sensible ones out there won’t stereotype.

that said, didn’t you think the film was beautiful otherwise?
  • ~Z~
    You don’t?

    My illusions are shattered. Forever.
  • Ugh- so that’s what happened in the movie. What can you expect when a straight man makes a movie with the least bit of lesbian content?

On my part, I am just dying to see “Sancharam”, the “gay” Indian/Malayalam movie, unfortunately rated R21. shakes fists at censors
  • for me or for the ipod? =)
  • milo

  • poppi u mean u dun alwiz tok lidis? :D

Argh okay I can’t keep it up. I hate ‘tok’ in particular. Anyhoo, your quotable quote’s up! *smirk
  • Ping
My sentiments exactly. Imagine how thrilled i was initially to find out there was “sappho” material in the film only to be SO disappointed at their inaccurate portrayal.

ah well. Eric Khoo is a straight man after all. :)
