Ah .. food, Little India & culture - another nice post , Adri :)

Btw, there's an event happening this weekend in the area, at the Post Museum on Rowell Road, that you might be interested in: http://www.migrantvoices.org/events.html

Yesterday's film screenings were pretty good. And the final item for today is a performance of Bengali folk songs ... :o

I've been to Singapore a couple of times and find it magical for its Indian-Singaporeans speaking in a Chinese accent and Chinese-Singaporeans giving me a discourse on which dosa joint is the best in Little India (and I am Indian!!!). I live in Bangkok and love it dearly but Singapore is special in it's own way.

If the city is what it is, it's probably because of souls like you relishing it's differences.

What also surprises me about Singapore is pockets of old-world charm that seem to be just about everywhere - and one thinks of singapore as only being HDB blocks and skyscrapers.

Two examples I know of - an old kampong tucked away behind a small hill in the heart of Yishun - not very friendly folks, but interesting nonetheless. Another is the winding roads and old bungalows surrounding the British Club in the Bukit Timah area. Both are worth a visit :)

Perhaps not quite in the same vein, but related (in my mind at least).
