Sedition

All that you need to read about the Sedition Fiasco is availabe on every other Singaporean blog but this; I, while holding values such as freedom and liberty very dear to my heart, am of the unwavering opinion all racists should be bobbitted, impaled, and then have their fingernails pulled off by a member of said race they have prejudices against. Because each time a racist comment is uttered by a member of my race, against any other race, he/she is insulting people I love or have loved.

I’ve been reading various political journals and essays on related topics, perhaps a better opinion piece in the aftermath of the fiasco will ensue.

But what do I know, right? I’m just a manja munjen who wants to be mama but really is minah.

    poppy – i know (:
  • My mistake.

After a while, these men kinda blur into one another =P
  • Balaji, not Balakrishnan.
  • “Actually, I think they place homosexuals in an entirely different category: one whose existence is almost completely denied where possible.”

Unless when Balakrishnan has to mention that gay men spread aids…
  • that is true, too.

btw, w, it’s as weird hearing you call me popagandhi, as it is for me to call you dubdew.

popagandhi – Actually, I think they place homosexuals in an entirely different category: one whose existence is almost completely denied where possible, instead of just being referred to something ‘wrong’, ‘subversive’, and the suchlike.
  • “The government will not take us seriously – instead, we’ll be put in the same class as opposition parties, anti-social elements and terrorist groups”

    Don’t they already? :)
  • madscientist, yeah I read your posts as well =D

Hurray. All thanks to the wonderful leadership of Singapore’s premiere gay intellectual activists, gays will be hated by conservatives AND liberals. way to go lor, thank goodness they only speak for the men xD
  • I believe there is an active discussion about this on Signel (and yes, I read your reply there, akikonomu).

The government will not take us seriously – instead, we’ll be put in the same class as opposition parties, anti-social elements and terrorist groups.
  • Attempts of this sort will never be taken seriously. A liberal like me chaffs at the idea of any group – gays included – using the sedition act on others.

If the gay community is seriously considering using the sedition act, I’d rather we not take them seriously at all.
  • Couldn’t have said it better!

Akikonomu: I think the problem with the gay community possibly trying to use the Sedition Act against homophobia is that it will incarcerate members of the government as well who have e.g. referred to homosexuality as ‘unnatural’/anything else that could be viewed as derogatory. This, in turn, could be taken to mean that said members of the gay community are trying to excite disaffection for the government, and then we’re looking at a seditious offense yet again.

Till the gay community in Singapore is actually regarded as a community of living, breathing, feeling people, no attempts of the sort will ever be taken seriously.

  • The aftermath of the fiasco would probably include representatives from Singapore’s gay community trying to use the Sedition Act to clamp down on homophobia, and urging the government to investigate the White Elephant Fiasco under the same piece of legislation…

Totally mystifying how these men think, really.
