Short Notes

  1. It is not worth it to skip classes in university. Going by the current annual school fees, if each semester=$3250, and there are 15 weeks in a semester, then missing each class means a loss of more than $200. I’ve never thought of it that way.
  2. The Open Source group at SMU will be giving away free Ubuntu Linux CDs this Thursday and Friday, outside the food court. I have been informed they will be available for the major architectures, including PPC. There will be live CDs available, too.
  3. I’m a 7-Eleven junkie. Just because instant mashed potato is so yum, and the 7-Eleven outside campus is so much nearer to my building than anywhere else within campus.
  4. Not bringing a laptop to school really, really helps improve attention span. It took me a full year to come around to that conclusion.
  5. Having a better attention span, really, really helps. It took me 20 years to come around to that conclusion.
  6. Since I can’t wake up even for > noon classes, I can never hope to be a gainful member of the labour force, without much effort.
  7. According to some people, I speak four languages. a. English, b. Mandarin and its assorted dialects, c. the language that has every Indian person sit down to give me masala tea/ plan my India trip/ want to teach me Hindi or Tamil/ adopt me, and now, d. the language that allows me to have free kimchi from any Korean food vendor. What they don’t know is, I’m just too shameless.
  8. I didn’t take to the city campus too fondly at first (its architecture), but I will forgive all the bad architecture in the world for having Subway nearby. On the downside, if I keep eating footlong sandwiches.. I don’t dare think about it.
  9. I have learned I am very cheena, and spent all weekend dealing with it. You can read the translated cheena-ness.
  10. So long and goodbye, fishy. What a way to die.

  • Be careful with the Ubuntu. It messed my second windows partition majorly and unrecoverably.
  • Instant mashed potatoes. shiver

Tha problem with being too cheap is actually learning how to cook, at which point anything with “instant” in the name strikes chords of fear in one’s heart.

I actually had to force myself to eat instant noodles at one point because I was running late. Not at all a pleasant feeling, considering I probably ate several thousand packets over the course of my life already.
  • Free wifi at 7-Eleven on Bencoolen St! And where else does one get to see a tourist buying LUGGAGE. Thank God for modcon.
  • Howard
You know, the 7/11 on Bencoolen Street is supposed to be the nicest 7/11 in Singapore. Sit at the counter, enjoy the view.
  • Tym: There aren’t any good eats on campus as yet, other than a Subway that will open next month…. yum.
  • Tym
Yeah, in university, I did stop and calculate how much it cost me each time I missed a class—- and owww, it was a lot because fees were way more than S$3250/semester.

I guess it’ll be a while before you get around to reviewing the good eats on campus, huh? :)
  • My kois had their pump cut during a blackout. At least you still have the rest.
