Out There Somewhere

March 14th, 2007  |  Published in travel  |  5 Comments

Some of you have been asking where the blog I link to on my sidebar, HORN OK PLEASE! has disappeared to. It’s been killed by the host (iblogs.com) so the author has relocated to a space of his own at Out There Somewhere. In case you haven’t been reading, my friend Jamie sold his house in Britain 18 months ago to “live a life of travelling” ââ¬â literally moving from place to place in Asia, mostly India, living in hotels permanently. I’ve missed his blog while it was gone, and evidently a number of you have, too. He’s currently in Nepal and reckons that living in his present hotel with views of the Annapurna Range for a year will only cost 400 pounds ââ¬â kind of puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?

One of my favourite recent entries:

A couple of the more surreal conversations Iââ¬â¢ve had recently: Random bloke in Swayambunath: Hello, sir? What is your country?
Me: England.
Random bloke: Very good. I have friend in England. He lives in Manchester United.
Me: What? In Old Trafford?
Random bloke: Yes. He is a saxophone.
Me: Eh?
Random bloke: Yes. (Walks off.)

Go check out his blog if you aren’t already a fan.

Jamie: you wouldn’t mind if another displaced soul comes to crash in Pokhara, would you? I’ll let you share my yak!

Wow! Pokhara is gorgeous and I don’t know why I didn’t know that already considering I am from Northern India. My Indian-ness takes a severe beating here! I’d probably visit the place if I could find a traveling companion.

Well it isn’t really to be taken literally ââ¬â it’s the idea of absurd conversation and people happening in odd places in India!

There’s plenty of room up here in the mountains for us ‘displaced ones’, Adri. Yaks and all.

Thanks for all your help getting my blog going. It’s it wasn’t for your timely intervention, I’d still be beating my head against a keyboard in Kathmandu right now.
