    Thanks Hor

    Thanks a Lot, SPH

Since we’re a pop culture backwater, Heroes is only going to air in our part of the world tonight. Since our national (and only) media is also rather (_insert expletive_), editors have seen fit to feature this widely acclaimed television series on the front page of Life! today — and also putting a teaser of each person’s superpower ability next to their faces.

The best part? The fact that they did this on the front cover, and then when you flip to the feature story on page 6 it says: “warning: don’t read on if you don’t want to know the superpower of each character”. Or something to that effect. The damage is already done. Part of the thrill of the first 6 episodes was in finding out what each person could do, and figuring out who’s the bad guy and who isn’t.

Thanks a lot, SPH. Can I say I’m glad I’m already quite far ahead in the series? (Heroes is my 2nd favourite TV show at the moment — the first is the irreplaceable Battlestar Galactica.)

On something completely unrelated: Popagandhi has been nominated for Best Asian Blog in the 2007 Bloggies. Vote for me and help me win US$20.07! I know I’ll be voting for Stuck in Customs for Best Photography. =)

That’s why I avoid the entertainment sections. Ever since they leaked the winner of Survivor Marquesas a few years back…!

And that is why I also don’t wait for our broadcasters here to get the shows. Survivor’s latest season - finished 6 weeks before the local one will. Amazing Race - not even on the radar, and the next one is due to begin in 2 weeks.

Haven’t watched Battlestar Galactica before, so can’t judge. Heroes is pretty good, but I can’t imagine why people would say it’s better than Lost - which is pretty unfair since Lost is in its third season now, and the advantage of novelty is wearing off for them.

My vote for best drama: a toss-up between 24 and Grey’s Anatomy.

That’s just plain sad. Then again, everyone gets their fix via YouTube and torrents nowadays, newspaper circulation and television viewership are falling. In effect, people no longer have to depend on the news media for their fix. They can go directly to the source (e.g. “Heroes” official web site) or seek “less encumbered” news sources (e.g. blogs) to get faster and official information.

I liked Grey’s Anatomy for a couple of episodes, namely the first 8 (I guess Ellen Pompeo has a lot to do with it), but thereafter simply lost interest. I realized that even with hot actresses thrown in, I still hate medical dramas. Never really understood the allure behind Lost, eitherr, and I think I might like 24 but I’d have to give it a shot. I have an addiction problem and every commitment to a series is like weighing up a partner so I’m too afraid to start.

Oh Battlestar is just… wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. It’s the most intelligent things on TV in recent times — it also has incredibly hot women — and it also happens to be set in space but one wouldn’t necessarily call it scifi. Heroes is really good though; my #3 would have to be Prison Break. I never get into the girly tv shows (i mean, the ones girls mostly like). BSG! BSG! BSG!

    BSG! BSG! BSG!

    Eh, is 3.13 out yet?

Out liao. :) Haven’t seen it yet but should be interesting to see Gaius Balthar getting his just desserts.

Speaking of backwaters, Australia has not even got this yet. We’re promised “sometime in 07.”

OMG I’m missing out! Where are all the websites for tv series when you need them?!

Btw Adri I voted for you 7 times with my 7 email accounts =)

Well they didn’t get Peter’s power(s? hahahhaha) correct, did they? And he’s at the EPICENTER of the first season, isn’t he? That would’ve really DESTROYED the whole experience. Hahaha.

Ok I’m an ass. Probably the effect of finishing an entire season (the second one) of House over the weekend. House makes Grey’s Anatomy look like a melodrama, and Scrubs like Sesame Street. Gets my vote.

That seems like a pretty big blunder to me, but then, I don’t know any newspaper that behaves as it should all of the time.

    Congratulations on your nomination.

Lost is an example of a TV show that jumped the shark hard and fast. Hopefully nothing else I’m watching has this phenomenon occur to it.

yerp, thanking my lucky stars that i caught it on exchange and am way ahead else ST would have REALLY ruined the experience for me, bloody morons.

and do check out studio 60. AWESOME show but i don’t think it’s ever gonna make it to our shores. pity as well, that they’re going to axe the show too.

amen to battlestar galactica! :) it is irreplaceable.

House, eh? I wonder if I have the time to follow two medical dramas.

And indeed, Lost might have already jumped the shark.

24! 24! 24! Just utterly amazing. Sitting through the entire 24 episodes in a day is insanely satisfying. And just plain insane.

I worry that everything Jeph Loeb touches turns to shit though.

Eh, I love Dexter. Anyone out there a fan of Dexter?
Heroes? Hmm… why is everyone so non-chalant when there is an invisible man hitting them?

For some reason I’m not surprised at the ST screw-up.  Revealing the super-powers on the front page is still just irritating.  Proceeding to state a warning on Page 6 not to proceed if you don’t want to know the super-power of each character AFTER dropping hints on the front page is just an exercise in stupidity.

Now I’m just glad I missed that particular issue of Life!.
