1. A one way direct flight on Singapore Airlines from Calcutta to Singapore costs approx. Rs 14000.
2. The cheapest flight to Singapore is on Biman Bangladesh Airlines, at Rs 10500.
3. After flying Biman twice over the past week, I won’t take it up to even save almost S$200 if it means hours in transit at Zia International Airport, Dhaka, whose nickname should be: where an hour becomes two, or three, or four, and nobody tells you anything about what’s going on, and security seems to think ‘most likely to be terrorists’ are the Koreans and Chinese.
4. Now, if Kolkata to Bangkok is Rs 5700 to Rs 7000, on Druk Air (Royal Bhutan) and on Thai Airways…
5. … And a thousand airlines operate Bangkok to Singapore at ridiculous prices… which just got even more ridiculous since every budget airline seems to be competing for the “cheapest flight to Bangkok” title (I draw the line at Air Asia and Tiger, though)…
6. … And it’s a city that I can stay free in… which is almost a second home for myself and my family…
7. … And I’ve spent the last few days thinking about how nice it will be to drop by Bangkok for a night just to eat at Le Banyan for dinner and at Kuppa@Playground for lunch, with wonderful dinner companions (some people have relatives or good friends in every city, I have foodies).
8. What should my decision be, especially considering how cost of flight to Bangkok + cost of excellent food at some great restaurants + cost of flight to Singapore, equals cost of one way flight to Singapore?
Decisions, decisions. When you’re torn between these three cities as I am, yet want to be home, for obvious reasons.
