Okay, I Changed My Mind
Blogging isn’t that scary after all, and BloggerCon has a lot to do with it. Another impulsive decision spectacularly reversed.
Those of you who have compulsively refreshed this site will be relieved to see some semblance of life here, after the suspended page notice over the last couple of days. My hosting account was cancelled again, for the same reason as the last, and I took the opportunity to give myself an excuse to sign up for a TextDrive account. As with buying a Mac, hosting with TextDrive isn’t cheap, but you know you’re paying for the best – and knowing that part of what I’m paying for goes to support an open source project of my choice, makes for good karma. At US$25 a month, I’m not going to be able to easily afford it once the “reserves” run out (money previously donated), though I have some idea on what to do to make this site sustain itself, without having to put on any ads. But I’m going to think about blogging revenue when I’m sipping my Chang beer while on holiday.
Site isn’t perfect yet, I hastily threw it together with Wordpress and yet another Theron Parlin theme. Work is needed on .htaccess and rewrites, post slugs, amongst other things. Migrating to my new server was a royal nightmare as I couldn’t restore directly from my Cpanel backup (since TextDrive uses Webmin), and the old MySQL databases were bloated beyond belief in any case. I had to manually copy and paste the data into a new database just so that I could have my old content back. I did like the previous concept that was Textsoap – unfortunately that one has run into issues (pertaining to a trademark infringement), and I suppose I will work on it further.
That’s all for tonight, folks. By the time you are looking at this the domain name will have propagated to its new nameservers, and I will be in bed reeling from the previous night’s work, eyes blinking to the misery of PhpMyAdmin and SQL dumps even when shut, and almost certainly having to beg the missus for forgiveness for oversleeping despite confidently promising otherwise.. sorry baby! (Note to readers: she wants you to know she played an instrumental role in nagging the blogger back into blogging.)
Some important notes: 1. I still need some time to work on cleaning up the feeds. 2. The comment count appears to be displaying one less comment than it should for each entry. Working on that. 3. Working on restoring my subdomains, i.e. the people I host.
P.S. Please send me your BloggerCon photos – especially those in which I have appeared, of course (Zhiyang, I’m looking at you)!
P.P.S. Damn. I’ve missed being a blogger.

welcome back.
what’s going to happen to the entries that were posted every wednesday though?
D: I haven’t thought about that. I’ll figure out a way to display those, soon enough.
You’re back! sobs with relief and thanks your missus
Yes!!! We thank your missus, and we thank Bloggers.SG, and we will make whatever thanksgiving libations are deemed appropriate.
Amen.
and i thought you had an aversion to anything with ‘blog’ in its name :p
hope textdrive won’t screw your site over like the previous ones and i’ll send you the photos as soon as i get them.
Didn’t quite speak to you that day, but I definitely did beam at you and ogled at your friend. :P
I’ve missed you being a blogger too. Heh.
Welcome back!
This could be the biggest benefit of BloggerCon (to me).
yoohoo… !!!
did not attend the Blogger.SG, missed the chance to meet you in person. :(
PS: you should write a book about your travels.
hey it was cool meeting you and all; yeah. lemme know if that transfer thing works out, yah?

j.
Yes, I’m glad to see your site up and running again. Welcome back.
Hi,
I was at blogger confer last Sat and heard you at the panel.
For blogging revenue, I suggest writing articles at http://english.ohmynews.com, it’s part of the citizen reporting project. So far, I’m the only citizen reporter from Spore.
You can get paid US$20 per article (or more).
The downside is the bank wire transfer costs, take into account that.
Give it a shot.
Adri’s a hot total babe! When she went up to the table at bloggers con, was thinking to myself, “Hey, who’s this pretty cool looking lady with the sexy voice…”. Just found the blog today. Good writing!
I knew you’ll be back. grinz
Welcome back Adri! You’ve been sorely missed!
Oh, and I can’t find your email add anywhere on your site (maybe I’m just blind), so as for the picture I took with you, if you want it you can grab it off my blog. It was great meeting you!
Gosh. I’m most relieved. I almost had a heart attack when i saw the page suspension notification and had to dedicate an entire post to the loss.
Welcome back! Look forward to more articles from you.
welcome back, Adri
cool, no longer need to access popagandhi using anonymouse; you know the textsoup version was blocked in China, and I was trying to write you an e-mail about that, but it couldn’t delivered either.
