Bom Bahai

Some random updates

Quaint little vintage Parsi bakeries with fantastic apple pies and oat and raisin cookies, the cheapest and best biryani and chicken afghani downstairs from our hotel, watching the Arabian Sea from Marine Drive with random fashion photographers we’d met, meeting an array of fascinating people everywhere we go in Bombay..

I have eaten at Bade Miyan’s-99436-1.html, and I don’t think there’s much else I need from life.

No updates for a while because I’m too busy soaking in Bombay. After tomorrow, we’ll be busy soaking in the sun in Goa.

both the port wine and the feni are unique Goa experiences.. as is sitting in a neighbourhood bar there and watching soccer with the locals…

did u manage to check out the local trains in Mumbai?

your trip photo album must be quite something (if the Mumbai photos are anything to go by..) - do post them when you get back..

best of luck with Goa N B’lore!

    Yay Bombay!

I love the buildings in Colaba, around the Fort area … all ancient and gothic, and with the Gateway of India and Chowpatty beach at somewhat lengthy but entirely walkable distances. There’s lots of neat walks all over, which generally take you through the whole mix of modern riches and ramshackle poverty, 1960s apartment buildings and 1980s schools. I wish I could give you more solid tips, but for me Bombay is all childhood memories and the bylanes of growing up, so my favourite places probably won’t be yours :).

Oh - if you can, go and see the sun set over the Arabian Sea. The best place I know of is Priyadarshini Park, Nepean Sea Road, but I’ve heard it’s pretty spectacular from the Worli Sea Face as well.

Would also like to say that I am totally impressed at how incredibly well you’re navigating my huge and (to me, anyway) terrifying country. I hope some day I’ll get to go somewhere totally alien to me and do half as well … :P

    Happy travelling!
