Yi Ge Man Tou Ying Fa De Xue An

the bloodbath that began with a steamed bun, in which a girl lies to a boy because she is hungry, steals his mantou, and nicholas tse grows up to become a heartless killer

As I’m not very tuned in to the Chinese-speaking/writing side of blogosphere, I missed out this gem until I read about it in the (gasp) Straits Times. The now-famous parody of Chen Kaige’s The Promise, by a self taught Chinese audio-video engineer ââ¬â really, really good. In “full on” mainland Chinese! Of course Chen Kaige hates it.

E.g. On the characters standing on the rooftop of a Chinese courtyard, wuxia style: “why are they standing there? inside sources reveal the two are on the rooftop because they haven’t received their wages in months, and are there to protest it.” “because of relationship problems, they started chasing each other around the roof and he took out his watermelon knife.” “how exactly can a person this large run at the speed of light and even suspend himself in the air? we consult the experts.” (cue for freaky woman in The Promise to explain the pseudo-science of wuxia flying.)

Even if you don’t get a thing you should stick around for his parodies of Chinese commercials. Absolutely brilliant.
