    Music in 2005

    Best albums, my pick:

    1. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
    2. The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
    3. The Decemberists - Picaresque
    4. Deerhoof - The Runners Four
    5. Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor (don’t ask)
    6. Kanye West - Late Registration
    7. My Morning Jacket - Z
    8. Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene
    9. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
    10. Sleater-Kinney - The Woods

    (Pitchfork’s, and Popmatters‘)

Worst Music Moment: Dragostea Din Tei/Maiahi (shock yourself away)
Even Worse: Cantopop versions of Dragostea Din Tei

Music “Huh” Moments: Antony and the Johnsons, Robbie William’s last album (esp. the track “Your Gay Friend”), TATU’s comeback

hahaha. know what u mean abt tatu’s comeback… every other song on their album sounds the same!

i love sufjan stevens too. have u heard of nellie mckay though? another newish singer-songwriter who should make everyone’s list.

im always tempted to backtrack whenever it comes to picking best albums of “the year”. for some reason i still keep going back (and back) to janis ian and joni mitchell…..

I also thought Twin Cinema, Illinois (the ‘e’ is only in the album cover) and Silent Alarm were some of the best of the year, but just couldn’t wrap my head around The Woods. Too much to take in, I think.

Also, the Antony album took a long, long, long time to grow on me, but it finally did.

Metacritic has a nice compilation of reviewers’ lists of the year’s best…

    Long Live The New Pornographers!!!

I like what I’ve heard of Antony and the Johnsons.

I’m embarassed to say that despite my love of both Sufjan Stevens and Sleater-Kinney, I have neither of their albums this year.

i can’t believe i missed sujna stevens when he played at shepherd’s bush.

i heart the decemberists. “I’m an engineeee driiiiiveeer”

Good list - I should say the Antony and the Johnsons album really grows on you. For that matter, I didn’t “get” Illinois until repeated listenings to “Casimir Pulaski Day” sucked me in…
