Life Is Random

November 8th, 2005  |  Published in general  |  8 Comments

  1. The mashed potato Killiney Kopitiam (SMU) serves with its chicken chop is really instant Maggi mashed potato, the same one 7-Eleven serves.
  2. Incidentally, I know this because I will have a wisdom tooth removed soon, and already know all about liquid food. (And for this reason, you may get your books later than expected, details later.)
  3. The “soup” component of your meal is also from Maggi. I know this because it comes in a Maggi cup.
  4. End-of-year Laos trip is cancelled. Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Vientiane and the 4000 Islands will have to wait. Which will delay the travel essay I was going to write: “I don’t know much about the Road to Mandalay, but can tell you all about the Slow Boat to Luang Prabang. It takes 2 days, and the other alternative is the fast boat, which takes 8 hours, a crash helmet and earplugs ââ¬â but might cost you your life. For which the appropriate essay title would be Descending Into Mekong.” Because The Bus To Pakse or The Train to Nongkhai just sounds.. unromantic. Laos should be glad I’m not coming.
  5. Some exchange students are eating from the Western Food stall, and complaining about the food. “Pasta in Singapore sucks!” Okay, and chowmein is what Chinese food is all about in your country. I wanted to offer to tell you about the pasta at Valentino.. but never mind.
  6. Another exchange student: “Food in Singapore isn’t really that good! I mean, I’ve tried everything… it’s so-so.” (Me: “Where have you tried it?”) “I try a different thing everyday at the Kopitiam.” Foodnazi not happy.
  7. When describing an ex to your girlfriend, never ever, under any circumstances, begin your sentence with: “I bet she screams louder than you”. Even if the second half of your sentence was “When she sees a cockroach.” She will give you hell about it and only be interested in the first half of the statement. (”Is she really?” “What, scared of cockroaches?” “No, you know what I mean.. you know.”)
  8. Liquid food tastes good. So good. No jokes about wisdom tooth removal, please.. Sigh.
  9. I still want to go to Laos. Sulk.
  10. I have a serious crush on Erika. I like artists. =)

One more random thought: I was reminded by reading a couple of blogs, and talking to a few people, that SMU’s choice of fully glass windows isn’t wise, as it’s been demonstrated a number of times. Exam stress + needy guys + needy girls + glass windows you can see through even after lowering the blinds = Free show in the middle of town. (Man, choose a group study room that isn’t so public..)
