Photo Geeking

A friend of mine was on the verge of buying a digital SLR, and as I was a few months ago, confused by the gamut of brands and models and other peripherals.

He mentioned he was drawn towards the Olympus cameras since it “has so many features” and “Konica Minolta has anti-shake”

Me: Somebody once told me that people who aren’t hot are usually the ones who are good in bed, because they know they’re not hot so they have to compensate. Whereas people who are hot don’t give a damn.. cos they’ll get laid anyway.

Tim: And?

Me: That’s like how Olympus, Konica Minolta, Fuji, the non-Canon/Nikon brands, have to work so much harder to get you.

Tim: But I want hot _and_ good in bed.

Me: Don’t we all? Canon and Nikon can do hot and good in bed, if you’re willing to pay^*^.

^*^ e.g. getting Image Stabilization only in more expensive lenses, as compared to KM’s in-camera Anti-Shake.

  • Ashwin: me too. But then now that I’ve got a Canon, I also can’t help but drool at a fuji s3 pro (who wouldn’t?); or even a KM D7D, for that matter. Or a nikon D200.. I’ve been using a D70s frequently, and damn, I want custom curves too.
  • Fuji isn’t all that bad. Their colors rendering is out-of-the-cam is very good. An advantage of having produced wonderful slide film I suppose. You have custom curves that allow you to get Velvia/Provia/Sensia contrast and colors. :)Plus, the ability to use Nikkor lenses.

    And, I am stuck with a Canon… :(

i love the analogy. where were you when i bought my camera?! :)
  • Konica-Minolta: two losers together don’t necessarily make a winner.

KM’s AS does not account for panning.. unlike nikon’s VR and Canon’s IS.

To Each His own. Canon is superior at the Telephoto End, Nikon at the Wide End.
  • I can identify with you friend, what with being confused.
